10 reasons why you don't want to live here: 1. "This is B-, C community." -- that's a direct quote from the property owner. I mean... if they admit it's mediocre, imagine how bad it really is. 2. Utilities are outrageous. You'll pay over $230 per month, and sewer alone averages $100. 3. When your lease is up, expect a $300 rent increase, with no improvements or explanation. 4. The laundry rooms are filthy. People wash pet beds, shoes, and dirty clothes all together. It's disgusting. 5. The building is not cleaned or maintained. I saw a coffee spill that sat there for 7 months before I took a photo. No one ever cleaned it. 6. If you live near the dog park, you'll hear dogs barking constantly -- even late at night. 7. Ducks swim and poop in the pool every single day. Duck feces carry harmful bacteria, and management does nothing about it. 8. The leasing office is unprofessional. The staff changes all the time. Most are rude and only helpful before you sign the lease. After that, they ignore you. 9. Elevators and water service are unreliable. Don't be surprised if there's no water or a broken elevator multiple times a month. 10. There is constant construction in the building because people are always moving out. Even if you still want to see it, take the elevator during your tour. It's old, dirty, and constantly out of service -- and it's a good example of how poorly everything is managed. To be fair, I'll mention two good things: - The location (San Mateo) is great. - Andrew and Alex from maintenance were the only people who were consistently helpful. But for the same price as a 1 bed / 1 bath at Laurel Crossing (with no in-unit laundry), I found a 2 bed / 2 bath with in-unit laundry on HotPads. Way better value, and a place that actually feels clean and cared for.
